Desire

Desire is the fuel behind the dream.  Desire refers to a wanting or longing for something.  To the champion, this desire to be the best is what pushes them to work hard every day.  It is the cause for dissatisfaction when they lose, and what makes them work harder as a result of a setback.  Everyone has setbacks on their journey towards excellence, but champions have the desire to overcome those setbacks. If you read the biography of any great champion, they will all share one thing, and that is desire.  But the important part about desire is that it cannot be given to you by anyone else.  No parent, coach, teacher, or friend can make you want to be a champion.  Similarly, no one else can know whether you have desire or not.  It is something that you are in complete control over.  Various people can influence how you put that desire to work on your road towards excellence, but you control your own destiny, because you control your own desire.

“The will to win must come from within.”–Unknown

“Desire is the key to motivation.”–Mario Andretti

“If you greatly desire something, have the guts to stake everything on obtaining it.”–Brendan Francis

“Desire is the starting point of all achievement, not hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire which transcends everything.”–Napoleon Hill

“The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire; the size of your dream; and how you handle disappointment along the way.”
–Robert Kiyosaki

“Your feet will bring you to where your heart is.”–Irish Proverb

“In my experience, there is only one motivation, and that is desire.  No reasons or principle contain it or stand against it.”–Jane Smiley

“Burning desire to be or do something gives us staying power; a reason to get up every morning or pick ourselves up and start in again after a disappointment.” –Marsha Sinetar

“By believing passionately in something that still does not exist, we create it.  The nonexistent is whatever we have not sufficiently desired.” –Unknown

Life Lesson:  Doing what it takes to have a successful life, which includes success in the classroom, takes self-motivation and a desire to do the things you need to get where you want to be.  Find what path you desire to follow in life, and go for it with all you have. Don’t wait around for others to tell you what to do or where to go to school.  Use wrestling to learn how to both find and use your desire to accomplish your dreams.
